  • Place tickets in the box office

  • Randomly place one of each art form and colour on the 8 artist spaces on the board
    • For the first blue artist placed:
      • Place it face-up and mark its initial fame
    • Place all other artists face-down
    • Randomly place artist bonus tiles on each artist
    • Place one collector (white visitor) on each of the 4 red artist tiles
    • Place both of each artist's signature tokens next to their corresponding artist tiles
    • For each art form:
      • Shuffle the deck of their respective works of art

    • Randomly place 1 visitor on each work of art tile for each ticket shown on the tile

        • 4P: 3 easels
      • Randomly place one of the work of art tiles set aside before on each easel

    • Place 1 random visitor in each player's lobby
    • Place 4 random reputation tiles on each of the 4 starting locations
    • Randomly place 3 scoring goal tiles in the intermediate scoring area of the board

Choose a starting player and give them the starting player token

Each player receives:

  • 1 player board
  • 8 assistants that are placed in the unemployment queue on the left side of the player board
  • 2 more assistants that are placed on the desks at the top right of the player board
  • 10 money from the bank
  • 1 random art dealer card
  • 1 random curator card

In reverse turn order:

  • Place your influence marker on the 10 space of the influence track
  • Place your gallerist pawn on an empty location space with a reputation tile still on it
  • Take the reputation tile on the space and place it on the 3rd art space on your player board

Any remaining reputation tiles are then removed from the board

The Gallerist is played over a series of rounds where players will be taking actions by doing the following:

  • Moving their gallerist to exactly one location on the board
  • Performing exactly one action at that location
  • Optionally, they may also take one executive action either before or after performing the main location action

When a player moves their gallerist pawn into a location which is occupied by another player's gallerist pawn or another player's assistant, the other player has been "kicked out":

  • After your turn has finished, the player who was kicked out may take a special Kicked-Out Action
  • After that Kicked-Out Action has been completed:
    • If a gallerist pawn was kicked out, it is placed on its owner's gallery
    • If an assistant pawn was kicked out, it is placed back on the owner's player board at an empty desk
      • If no empty desks are available, it is removed from the game entirely
        • i.e. It is not returned to the unemployment queue

On a player's turn, if their gallerist pawn is at a location (i.e. has not been kicked out by another player), they must move to a different location:

  • They may leave behind one of their assistants on the space the gallerist pawn is being moved from when doing this
    • The assistant can be taken either from one of the office desks or from another location

If the gallerist pawn was kicked out, they are able to choose any location to move their gallerist pawn to

At the start of the game, you are allowed to have a maximum of 1 collector in your gallery. For each artwork sold, this maximum limit is increased by 1

Influence

You are able to move your marker down on the influence track to gain fame and money depending on the situation. These are the situations where this can be done:

  • To take a location action during a kicked-out action
  • To further increase the fame of an artist when taking an action that increases the artist's fame, such as promoting an artist at the Media Centre or buying a work of art at the Artists Colony
  • To help pay costs for actions such as buying a work of art at the Artists Colony, hiring assistants at the Media Centre or making an offer in the International Market

Fame and Celebrity

When an artist's fame reaches level 19, they become a celebrity and then retire. The player that takes an action that causes an artist to become a celebrity does the following:

  • Place a celebrity tile over the artist
  • Gains 5 money
  • Any exhibited work of art by the artist becomes a masterpiece
    • Anyone exhibiting a masterpiece is allowed to use the 4th slot of their gallery

As the artist has retired, no more works of art can be purchased from the artist unless you have their signature token on the commission space of your player board

When taking location actions, you may wish to

Note:

  • You can only take this action if:
    • There is at least one undiscovered artist
    • The commission space on your player board is empty
  • Choose an undiscovered artist
  • Gain the bonus on the artist bonus tile and then return this tile to the game box
  • If the artist is red, move the collector on it to the plaza
  • Flip the artist tile face-up
  • Place a fame marker on the brown space of the fame track of the artist tile
  • Move one of the artist's signature tokens to the commission space of the player board

Note: You can only take this action if you have an empty space in your gallery to place the purchased artwork into

  • Choose an artist with either an available signature token or one which you have a commission token for
  • Take the topmost tile from the works of art stack for the corresponding type of art
  • Move all visitors on this tile to the plaza
  • Pay money to the bank:
    • If you have a commission token, the price is the artist's initial fame
    • Otherwise, the price is the artist's current fame
  • Increase the artist's fame by the amount shown on the artwork tile, plus 1 for each collector (white visitor) in your gallery
  • Gain the tickets printed on the artwork tile
  • Place the artwork tile face-down into the leftmost empty space in your gallery
    • You can only place an artwork in the 4th slot if the player is currently exhibiting a masterpiece
  • Move the signature token to the right of your player board to mark the current price of the artwork
    • The token sits next to the icon matching the artist's current star rating
  • Place a number of random visitors on the newly revealed work of art equal to the number of tickets printed on it
    • If the bag runs out, just place as many as you can

Note: You cannot take this action if all 3 spaces on your player board have unfulfilled (pink side up) contract cards on them

  • Optionally, draw 4 new cards from the contract deck and place them on the 4 display spaces
    • This may cover up some cards already on the display
  • Choose a contract card
  • Place it on your player board with the pink side up (unfulfilled side):
    • You cannot place the card on top of another contract card with its pink side up
    • If the space you place it on is empty, take the ticket printed on the space
    • If the space contained a previously fulfilled contract (white side up), put the card face up on a discard pile next to the contract deck and place the new contract card on the space
      • You do not gain the ticket in this case
      • If there was an assistant on this card, the assistant is placed on an empty office desk
        • If no desks are empty, the assistant is removed from the game entirely
  • If, after completing this action, one of the 4 display spaces is empty, draw a replacement card and place it on this space face-up (pink side up)

  • Choose an artwork currently being exhibited in your gallery to sell
  • Receive the amount of money according to the position of the signature token for that artwork
  • Remove the artwork from your gallery and place it next to your player board
  • Slide all other artworks in your gallery to the leftmost space to fill in any gaps
  • Return the signature token for that artwork back to the appropriate artist tile
  • Move one visitor of any colour from your gallery to the plaza
    • If you have no visitors in your gallery, skip this step
  • Flip the corresponding contract card from its pink side to its white side
    • The orientation of the card depends on the visitor you moved into the plaza to perform this sale:
      • VIP (pink visitor): Influence bonus to the top
      • Investor (brown visitor): Money bonus to the top
      • Collector (white visitor) or no visitor was moved: You can choose whichever bonus to put to the top
    • You do not receive this bonus until you take an executive action to receive it using an assistant

Note: You cannot take this action if there are no empty desks in the office

  • Move up to 4 assistants from the top of the unemployment queue to empty office desks
  • For each moved assistant:
    • Pay the cost printed on the space that they were moved from
    • Receive the benefit printed on the space they were moved from

  • Select an artist to promote
    • This artist must have a promotion level lower than 5
  • Spend influence equal to the new level of promotion token
  • Return the artist's current promotion token, if any, to the appropriate stack on the board
  • Place the next level of promotion token onto the artist's tile
  • Earn the bonus printed on the board for the new level of promotion tile
  • Increase the artist's fame by 1, plus 1 for each collector in your gallery

To have access to either of these actions, you must meet the conditions of at least one of the columns in the market. These conditions are:

  • 1st column: at least 1 visitor of any colour in your lobby
  • 2nd column: at least 1 investor (brown visitor) and 1 VIP (pink visitor) in your lobby
  • 3rd column: at least 1 collector (white visitor) and 1 visitor of a different colour in your lobby

Each space in the market can only have one assistant placed on it

Note:

  • You can only take this action if:
    • You meet the conditions for one of the columns of the market
    • You have either sold or exhibited a work of art whose space in that column is empty
    • You have an assistant either on a location or at an office desk
  • Choose a space in the top 4 rows of the grid based on its column and art type
  • Earn the influence printed above that column
  • Take the reputation tile from the chosen space
  • Place it on an empty reputation space on your player board
  • Immediately receive the benefit written on the space
    • The tile itself contains a final scoring bonus, you do not receive this benefit during the game
  • Move any visitor from your lobby into the plaza
  • Place one of your assistants onto the space you took the reputation tile from
    • This assistant can come from either an office desk or from a location on the board
    • Only one assistant can be placed on any one space market space

Note:

  • You can only take this action if:
    • You meet the conditions for one of the columns of the market
    • Gain the influence
  • Choose a space in the bottom 3 rows of the grid based on its column, bonus and offer cost
  • Earn the influence printed above that column
  • Pay the offer cost shown to the left of the row
  • Take the bonus on the space immediately
  • Place one of your assistants onto the space you took the reputation tile from
    • This assistant can come from either an office desk or from a location on the board
    • Only one assistant can be placed on any one space market space

Before or after taking the main location action, you are allowed to do one of the following things:

  • Moving Visitor by spending tickets
  • Using the bonus on a contract card

Note: You are only allowed to do this action if you have at least one ticket stored on your board that matches the colour of one of the visitors either in the plaza or one of the player's lobbies

To move visitors, you must spend tickets on your player board. Each ticket spent allows you to move a single visitor one space towards your gallery. The "spaces" you can move a visitor from are, in order from furthest away to nearest to your gallery:

  • Another player's lobby
  • The central plaza
  • Your lobby

You are not allowed to move a visitor from another player's gallery into their lobby.

When you have spent a ticket, place it in a discard pile by the board (i.e. it does not go back into the box office area)

During the game, you will receive contract cards that have a bonus space printed on both sides of them. You are able to use this bonus space by taking an executive action to place one of your assistants onto the space on the card:

  • You may take the assistant either from an office desk or a location on the board
  • Once the assistant is on the card, it remains on the card
    • The assistant can be removed from the card by doing one of two things:
      • Sell a work of art with this contract card
        • This can only be done when using the bonus space on the pink side of the card
      • Obtain another contract card and place it on the same space as the now used contract card
        • This can only be done when using the bonus space on the white side of the card
    • When you do this, the assistant is placed on an empty office desk
      • If no office desks are empty when you do this, the assistant is removed from the game entirely

When you have been kicked-out, you are allowed to do one of the following things:

  • Reducing influence back to the previous Fame icon on the influence track to perform one of the location's actions
  • Take an executive action

When the last ticket of any one of the stacks in the box office is taken, an intermediate scoring is performed at the end of that turn To perform intermediate scoring, for each player(s) that satisfy the criteria on the tile, receive the printed benefit:

  • In the case of ties, all tied players receive the benefit

The end of the game is triggered when two of the following three conditions are met:

  • The box office is empty of tickets
  • Two or more artists have become celebrities
  • The bag is empty of visitors

The round in which the game end is triggered is completed, and then one more round is played:

  • In this final round, players cannot perform Kicked-Out Actions

After the final round is completed, final scoring commences

  • International Market Majorities:
    • Receive points based on who has the most number of assistants in each column:
      • First column:
        • 1st place: 6 money
        • 2nd place: 3 money
        • 3rd place: 1 money
      • Second column (unused in 1-2 player games):
        • 1st place: 10 money
        • 2nd place: 5 money
        • 3rd place: 3 money
      • Third column:
        • 1st place: 15 money
        • 2nd place: 10 money
        • 3rd place: 6 money
    • If there is a tie, add the rewards for the tied positions together and split the result evenly between all players, rounding down
  • Score all reputation tiles on your player board
  • Receive the current sale value for all works of art currently being exhibited in your gallery
  • Auction renowned works of art:
    • Each player adds up the amount of money they spent on placing assistants in the bottom 3 rows of the international market
    • In order from most spent to least spent, each player choose one of the works of international renown that were put on easels during setup
      • The player then receives the sale value of the artwork as if the most famous artist for that type of art had made it
      • The player then adds the artwork to their collection:
        • It must be treated as either a currently exhibited work or as a sold artwork for the purposes of scoring curator and art dealer cards
        • It cannot be used for both cards, only one
  • Score your curator card
    • Earn money for all completed sets of currently exhibited works of art
      • You may use a single artwork in multiple sets
  • Score your art dealer card
    • Earn money for any completed sets of sold Works of Art on your player card
      • You may use a single artwork in multiple sets
  • Score Influence
    • Earn money based on your location on the influence track

The player with the most money wins. If there is a tie, the tiebreakers are:

  • Most works of art acquired (exhibited and sold)
  • Most visitors in your gallery
  • Most assistants in play

If there is still a tie, the tied players share the victory
